Installation mit Karteikartenschrank und 30381 Mondbildern, 2017-2100
Die Arbeit "Ein Leben und ihre Monde" wurde von den abendlichen Mondbeobachtungen durch das Schlafzimmerfenster mit meiner Tochter inspiriert. Ich war fasziniert von der Vorstellung jede Mondphase in der nahen Zukunft vorhersehen zu können und überlegte wie viele Tage meine Tochter den Mond schon sah und noch anschauen wird. Geht man von ihrer durchschnittlichen statistischen Lebenserwartung aus (83,18 Jahre für Geburtsjahr 2017 in Deutschland), so errechnet man 30.381 Tage. Für all diese Tage lässt sich die jeweilige Mondphase exakt vorhersagen.
Einige analoge Foto-Kameras haben die Möglichkeit das Datum am Tage der Aufnahme in leuchtend orangenen Zahlen mit in den Film einzubelichten. Eine vorhersehbare Mondphase eines bestimmten Tages mit dem passenden Datum zu versehen, lässt Fotos entstehen, wie man sie theoretisch auch in der Zukunft mit diesen Kameras aufnehmen könnte.
Kaum etwas im Leben ist verlässlich vorhersehbar, schon gar keine Fotos eines bestimmten Momentes. Ein Foto vom Mond scheint hier aber die Ewigkeit der wiederkehrenden Bewegungen der Sterne und Planeten entgegenzusetzen und lässt die Dimensionen einzelner vergehender Momente klein und kostbar erscheinen.
Jedes der 30.381 Fotos ist aufgrund des individuellen Datums ein Unikat. Sie alle werden in einer Größe von je ca. 15×10 cm einzeln gedruckt. Alle Bilder der noch kommenden Tage in der Zukunft bis zum Jahre 2100 werden in einem alten Karteikartenschrank im Ausstellungsraum präsentiert. Jene Fotos der bereits geschehenen Tage seit 2017 wachsen zu einem großen Bilderberg auf dem Boden.
A LIFE AND ITS MOONS

The work A Life and Its Moons was inspired by evening observations of the moon through my daughter’s bedroom window. I found the idea of being able to foresee every lunar phase of the near future fascinating, and thought about how many days my daughter has already seen the moon and will see it over the course of her lifetime. Based on her average statistical life expectancy (83.18 years for children born in Germany in 2017), they will amount to 30,381. For all of those days, it is possible to make a precise prediction of the respective lunar phase.
Many analogue cameras have the option of exposing the date on which the photo is taken in glowing orange digits right on the film. The possibility of matching the lunar phase of a certain day with the respective date results in photos that could theoretically also be taken with such cameras in the future.
Hardly anything in life is reliably predictable, and photos of a certain moment all the less. A photo of the moon, however, seems to counter that unpredictability with the eternity of the celestial bodies’ recurring movements, making the dimensions of individual passing moments appear small and precious.
Owing to the individual dates, every one of the 30,381 photos is a unicum. They will all be printed individually on a scale of 15x10 cm. All images of the days still to come until the year 2100 will be presented in an old index card cabinet in the exhibition space. The photos of the days that have already passed since 2017 will be on display in a big heap.
